In a move to expand its presence in the Australian market, Medrad, Inc. (Indianola, PA, USA) has acquired Biotel Pty Ltd. (Sydney, Australia). Biotel is a manufacturer of computed tomography (CT) vascular injection equipment and video imagers for use in radiology. Medrad is a leading global supplier of vascular injection systems for angiography, CT, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The new subsidiary will continue operation under the name Biotel.

Vascular injectors are computer-controlled, electromechanical devices that inject contrast fluids into the vascular system to aid the diagnosis of heart disease, stroke, cancer, or other disorders. Biotel's CT injector is a basic-feature, lower-cost device and is a complementary addition to Medrad's full line of injector products.

The acquisition will enable Medrad to better meet customer needs by further segmenting our vascular injection product line, and provide this part of the world with the full range of our world-class products, equipment training, and service programs, said John P. Friel, president and CEO of Medrad.
