Siemens Medical Solutions (Erlangen, Germany) with its subsidiary PETNet Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Knoxville, TN, USA), has acquired full ownership of New England PETNet Manufacturing & Distribution Center, LLC (Woburn, MA, USA). Financial details were not disclosed.

The acquisition, a result of continuing efforts of expansion, enables Siemens and PETNet to provide biomarkers for clinical and preclinical positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to the U.S's New England region through PETNet's SafetyNet international network of more than 45 manufacturing and distribution centers. PETNet, Siemens' distribution channel for biomarkers, is the world's leading producer and distributor of PET biomarkers, with the largest U.S. network of cyclotron-equipped radiopharmacies.

"In addition to biomarker delivery and solutions for the research and clinical markets, PETNet customers in the New England region will have access to an array of programs to support and enable the continuous development of their skills, productivity, and technology,” said Michael Reitermann, president, Molecular Imaging Division, Siemens Medical Solutions. "We offer a full spectrum of educational and marketing modules to help our customers develop and grow their practices, and gain greater awareness of payer positions on reimbursement.”

Molecular imaging biomarkers--small tracers that monitor biologic processes--enable the biologic processes of disease to be identified and understood. Results may help clinicians determine customized therapies for patients by pinpointing the active pathways in the disease progression. "As the technologies evolve, PETNet offers advanced products and services that optimize diagnostic accuracy, and help support business growth,” added Mr. Reitermann.
