A joint venture between two medical companies has produced a picture archiving and communication system (PACS) with three-dimensional viewing reconstruction technology, providing three-dimensional (3D) image enhancement for hospital and imaging center diagnostic radiologists. Posted on 19 Jan 2005
CoActiv Medical Business Solutions (Ridgefield, CT, USA), a PACS software and systems provider to hospitals and imaging centers, has announced a partnership with Barco (Katrijik, Belgium) and its medical software division Voxar 3D, a 3D radiographic image-rendering company. The Exam-PACS with the easy to use Exam-Viewer integrates with Voxar 3D viewing reconstruction technology and allows users to direct, color, and perform 3D reconstructions from any series with the Exam-Viewer. These reconstructed 3D images are then automatically and instantly saved back to the original exam as an additional series and become part of the exam for all subsequent viewings.
This system enables physicians to reconstruct organs and complete bodies in realistic 3D views with a few simple mouse movements. This new technology can be used by radiologists and other specialists to perform noninvasive procedures to provide early detection of possible problems and permit treatment regimens earlier in the disease cycle than was previously possible. Moreover, this new technology will help to reduce frequently painful and sometimes risky, invasive exploratory surgical procedures.
"The partnership with Barco's Voxar 3D viewing software bolsters CoActiv's already powerful Exam-PACS and continues with our stated mission of providing hospitals and imaging centers with a PACS solution that is affordable, without compromising quality, reliability, and professionalism,” stated Ed Heere, president of Coactive Medical Business Solutions.
