Esaote SpA (Genoa, Italy), a manufacturer of medical diagnostic ultrasound equipment, and Smiths Medical MD, Inc. (St. Paul, MN, USA), a division of Smiths Group plc (London, UK), have announced that they have formed a four-year distribution partnership for the Piccolo vascular access ultrasound system. Smiths Medical will become the exclusive distributor of the system for the vascular market in the United States and Canada.

The Piccolo system is a unique ultrasound device weighing only 800 g, which was specifically designed for ultrasound guidance to assist the placement of needles and catheters in vascular or other anatomic structures. The combination of excellent image quality, ease of use, and customization makes it suitable for any clinician responsible for vascular access procedures. Better vascular assess improves not only the level of care and patient comfort, but also improves safely and workflow.

"We are extremely pleased to have formed an alliance with Smiths Medical, a recognized leader in the North American vascular access market. We are confident that the partnership will prove successful for both parties,” said Fabrizio Landi, general manager of Esaote.
