A three-year distribution agreement gives Hologic (Bedford, MA, USA) exclusive distribution rights in the United States to ultrasound products for breast imaging to be manufactured by Aloka Company Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) and customized to Hologic's specifications.

According to the agreement, Aloka will manufacture a joint-label, high-performance, fully functional diagnostic ultrasound system optimized for women's imaging, with emphasis on finding and diagnosing abnormalities within the breast. The system will incorporate Aloka's proprietary ProSound technologies, including digital pure beam imaging, tissue harmonic echo, 3D color Doppler, a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter to enable higher contrast resolution, and an integrated DICOM compatible image management.

"Our system specifications focused on the highest image quality, a versatile feature-set, simplicity of use for technologists and physicians, and affordable pricing for women's imaging suites that are suffering from overall reimbursement pressures,” said Jack Cumming, chairman and CEO of Hologic. "In addition and most importantly, Aloka shares our passion for improving healthcare for women.”
