Marketing Alliance on Storage of Medical Images

In a move designed to help to solve the growing problem of storing medical images and other patient information, Storage Technology Corp. (StorageTek, Louisville, CO, USA) has announced remarketing agreements with three major suppliers of medical imaging systems. The three suppliers are Agfa-Gevaert Group (Mortsel, Belgium), Kodak Health Imaging Systems (Rochester, NY, USA), and Philips Medical Systems (Best, The Netherlands).

Under the agreement, these suppliers can resell and license StorageTek products for integration into health care system solutions and provide their shared customers with centralized, managed patient information in a transaction-based data archive. In addition, the companies will be able to offer health-care customers solutions for sharing multidepartment patient archives, thereby reducing the overall cost of storage.

StorageTek's L-Series libraries are the first in the industry with a native network port and built-in web server, says the company. They offer solutions for storing, retrieving, and managing digital information, including test, video clips, x-rays, and other important, frequently accessed information. StorageTek notes that new regulations for patient information security have resulted in an increased need for storage capacity in the medical industry.

"With the continual growth of exam volume and the routine availability of sophisticated image techniques, medical imaging archives must combine on-demand performance with long-term reliability. StorageTek's products will save our customers time and money by supplying them with scalable storage options,” said Dean Kaufman, director of strategic marketing, Impax Solutions, Agfa.
