A private clinic specializing in orthopedic surgery has completed the installation and integration of a comprehensive new Radiology Information System (RIS) to streamline the radiology workflow and manage documentation and accounting.

Data from the previous RIS was migrated into the new system, and the new RIS and workflow were integrated with the existing Hospital Information System (HIS) of the clinic.

The Medavis (Karlsruhe, Germany) RIS was installed in the Merian Iselin Clinic (Basel, Switzerland). The Medavis RIS provides speech recognition, statistics of imaging capacity, and a diagnostic patient center feature that provides access to a patient’s entire history from all key workstations. Another unique feature is that a user can use the RIS to prepare examinations in advance, assign an examination to a physician, make changes to the standard examination protocol, and integrate images into the report for the referring physicians.

The RIS has a bidirectional asynchronous connection to the HIS, to prevent data loss, and interfaces with the hospital Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS), and accounting systems.

Dr. Thomas Egelhof, chief physician of the Radiology Institute of Merian Iselin Clinic, said, “We evaluated all of the popular RIS solutions, Medavis were chosen because their product appeared to suit us, because the software seemed to be intuitive and easy to use, met all of our requirements, was based on the latest software and server architecture, they were known for their outstanding level of service and the company was prepared to implement an interface to our own Hospital Information System (HIS).”
