Updated software that facilitates preoperative planning of heart valve procedures is being demonstrated at EuroPCR 2015 in Paris, France, the annual congress of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI).

The new software release includes a Septal Crossing workflow for planning of mitral valve procedures and LAA (Left Atrial Appendage) closures, and an improved Mitral workflow.

The Mitral workflow, and 3mensio Structural Heart software solutions were developed by Pie Medical Imaging (Maastricht, the Netherlands), a part of the Esaote group (Genova, Italy). Pie Medical Imaging creates software for quantitative analysis and visualization of medical images, and for improving the quality of cardiovascular diagnostics and interventions.

The Mitral workflow software provides advanced visualization and sizing of the mitral annulus and its surrounding structures, such as the aortic valve and coronary arteries. The 3mensio Structural Heart software provides insights into the size and shape of the Mitral valve for pre-procedural planning of mitral valve replacement and repair procedures. The software also enables simulation of the possible impact on the LVOT Clearance of placing a valve. The 3mensio Structural Heart software also enables visualization of cardiac structures in a simulated angioview to help determine anatomic relations between the intra-atrial septum, LAA ostium, mitral annulus, and vena cava.
