A new software portal that provides a broad, comprehensive, and holistic radiation dose management strategy for healthcare providers has been released at Radiological Society of North America Annual Meeting (RSNA) 2014.

The software allows providers to keep track of all imaging radiation to which clinicians and patients are exposed. Dose reduction is becoming more important with increasingly stringent dose management compliance standards and regulations such as Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) Smart Dose XR-29 standard.

The DoseWise portal allows personal radiation dose tracking, analysis, and monitoring in a range of diagnostic environments and includes training and instructions for safe use of imaging equipment that minimizes cumulative radiation exposure. Improvements in technology are also expected to allow use of reduce radiation doses. The portal includes a number of Philips services and products including IMR, DoseAware, and ClarityIQ.

The portal was developed by Royal Philips (Amsterdam, the Netherlands). According to Gene Saragnese, executive vice president and CEO of Philips Imaging Systems, "Philips DoseWise Solutions return a measure of control to patient care, arming clinicians and informing patients with the tools, training and insights they need in order to ask the right questions regarding radiation dose."
