Developed from a powerful imaging informatics platform, a new medical informatics company has added two new novel solutions to its product range.

ClearCanvas, Inc. (Toronto, Canada), a developer, manufacturer, and supplier of innovative imaging informatics infrastructure solutions, with a mission to make medical imaging available to all, reported on their informatics solutions it presented at the 99th scientific assembly and annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) held in Chicago (IL, USA), from December 1-6, 2013.

“This year is particularly exciting for ClearCanvas with the introduction of two truly differentiating solutions that power an organization’s informatics infrastructure. Both solutions are designed to increase access to patient images, optimize efficiencies, and ultimately improve patient outcomes,” said Clinton Chau, ClearCanvas’ founder and CEO. “RSNA gives us the chance to demonstrate what we have been working on and show the healthcare community the passion, dedication, and commitment of ClearCanvas to provide the informatics infrastructure required to power medical imaging innovation around the globe both today and tomorrow.”

A new vendor-neutral enterprise picture archiving and communication system (PACS) is designed to increase access to images across the healthcare enterprise. ClearCanvas’s Cleome features a proprietary, zero footprint HTML5 [hypertext markup language] diagnostic universal viewer. Cleome combines the fast and simple-to-use viewer with the vendor-neutral Cleome image server for image archiving, retrieval, and distribution. The fully integrated system enables management and viewing of all modalities including breast tomosynthesis on both mobile and stationary devices. Ensuring access to providers outside the primary enterprise, Cleome’s referring physician’s web portal also includes an HTML5 viewer for access to images and reports.

ClearCanvas’s ImageDrive imaging catalog system brings structured independence to the ever-growing amount of images and associated files outside of the standard production reading setting with an innovative catalog technology. ImageDrive features a fully integrated owner-defined organizing, viewing, and sharing system. Designed to realize compounding efficiencies for users, ImageDrive integrates multiple projects to a centralized archive while allowing users to work within a private area. The integrated HTML5 workspace and viewer gives the user a powerful technology to efficiently manage their images and files. This technology includes features such as sophisticated de-identification, arbitrary tagging, workgroups and image sharing. ImageDrive can be used in a variety of settings for a multitude of use cases in areas such as research, industry, and academia.

ClearCanvas integrated radiology information system (RIS)/PACS, Team Edition, and ClearCanvas PACS, Team Edition provides an easy to use full PACS system. Configurable either as integrated RIS/PACS or as PACS, TeamEdition has shown itself to be an effective product for users worldwide. TeamEdition, powered with a full set of diagnostic tools, provides a smooth and intuitive user experience for clinicians, technologists, administrators, and referring physicians.

The ClearCanvas open source development platform is available on Github under the GPLv3 license. This highly extensible platform has accelerated commercialization for creators of innovation. With a range of commercial products, the platform is applicable across the healthcare industry though the variety of partners. The open source code base includes an image server, workstation, and basic RIS function.

ClearCanvas solutions include medical imaging workstations, gateway solutions, RIS, PACS, and imaging catalog system.
