A new picture archiving and communication system (PACS) is a sophisticated and scalable web-based platform that allows access to medical images throughout the enterprise for faster diagnosis, reporting, storage, and distribution of clinical data.

Shina Systems (Caesarea, Israel), a developer of clinical image management, visualization, and analysis software recently released the new version of its 3Di PACS. 3Di PACS is a novel platform that allows healthcare providers, clinicians, and patients to view medical images everywhere—from diagnostic image interpretation to intuitive viewing of images in a personal health record. The 3Di PACS web interface allows studies management and physician worklist via a full-featured, zero-footprint two-dimensional (2D)/3D web-based viewer. The 3Di PACS client is an advanced diagnostic PACS viewer for reading 2D, 3D, and 4D (sequence) studies using proprietary high-speed streaming technology, multimonitor support, and advanced hanging protocol (HP).

With this new release of 3Di PACS, users worldwide will enjoy an intuitive diagnostic viewing system that is immediately accessible via any web browser. The new version includes a broader range of interaction features, such as volume-rendering tools, rule-based HP definition, and selection, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved mammography reading tools, easy-to-use magnetic resonance (MR) spine-labeling, integrated reporting, and integration with other hospital information systems. This new version has been released after an assessment period in selected live sites worldwide, where the software was used as the main PACS. The experience and input provided by these test sites contributed substantially to the current version of 3Di PACS.

This release, as part of the 3Di product range, includes new versions of the 3Di Cloud software and 3Di workstation. 3Di Cloud is a cost-effective, cloud-based image management and visualization software suite, which converts any Internet-connected personal computer (PC) into a comprehensive image-processing workstation. 3Di workstation is an advanced multimodality viewing and analysis software suite, which covers a broader range of clinical needs, including an autosegmentation cardiac computed tomography (CT) analysis tool, CT colonoscopy, and positron emission tomography (PET)-CT fusion.

Shina Systems develops and markets clinical image management and analysis application software. The company achieved market leadership through its proprietary, automated image segmentation tools and its intuitive, clinician-friendly application workflow.
