New Software Incorporates Structured Imaging Report Values into Voice Recognition Reports

Using Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) Structured Report (SR), HL [health level]7, or XML measurement data from modalities such as dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), computed tomography (CT), or ultrasound, new software autopopulates the report with these values, saving radiologist dictation time and reducing potential human error. The software system supports multiple modalities, vendors, and reports, as well as advanced data types such as CT dose/contrast and injector system measurements.

PACSGear (Pleasanton, CA, USA), a provider of imaging connectivity for electronic health records (EHRs), recently developed ModLink, software that transfers structured report measurements directly into the PowerScribe 360|Reporting system from Nuance (Burlington, MA, USA).

“To include measurement data in reports, radiologists look at one screen and dictate values into another. Since some reports contain more than 20 measurements, we had to find a better way,” said Eli Rapaich, PACSGear’s CEO. “ModLink automatically populates report templates, allowing radiologists to avoid time-consuming dictation and costly reporting errors,” Mr. Rapaich said.

“By using ModLink to integrate ultrasound measurements into PowerScribe 360|Reporting structured report templates, I have found a significant improvement in reporting efficiency and accuracy. I look forward to integrating ModLink throughout our entire practice,” stated David Miller, MD, a radiologist at South Jersey Radiology Associates (Blackwood, NJ, USA).

ModLink was featured at the HIMSS annual Conference and Exhibition (HIMSS 2013) in New Orleans (LA, USA), during March 4–6, 2013.

PACSGear provides image connectivity solutions for medical image management of picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and EHR systems to hospitals and healthcare facilities. Its systems integrate documents, film, video, visible light, and other images from any department to any PACS/EHR. Healthcare personnel in specialties such as radiology, gastroenterology, cardiology, dermatology, orthopedics, and pathology can connect, view and share images and results to enable health information exchange (HIE).
