A new 10 megapixel (MP) grayscale monitor features proprietary SmoothGray technology that displays "just noticeable differences" calibrated to the sensitivity of the human eye.Posted on 07 Dec 2010
The Coronis Fusion 10MP incorporates advanced in-plane switching (IPS) WideView liquid crystal display (LCD) technology, which renders grayscale images with superb brightness and contrast, dark blacks, and perfect geometry. The technology also provides an excellent view from any angle, turning the monitor into an ideal solution for multiuser viewing of clinical images. To assure consistency and maximize display lifetime, the monitor incorporates a system of multiple backlight and temperature monitoring sensors that work with an ambient light compensation sensor and a front sensor, optimizing the display for stable and efficient performance.
To maximize efficiency and reduce eye fatigue, the monitor adopts architecture that offers radiologists the freedom to organize the 76 cm workspace either as two seamless 5 MP (Megapixel) displays or as one wide-screen 10 MP display. This allows them to compare prior and current images without the annoyance of a central bezel, to review X-ray images, or view 40 full-resolution computerized tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) images with excellent diagnostic precision on a single screen.
The Coronis Fusion 10 MP diagnostic display system is a product of Barco (Kortrijk, Belgium), and is supplied as "plug & play” product bundle, featuring an ultra-fast display controller with maximum 4096 x 2560 resolution and built-in DVI and DisplayPort connectors, facilitating very fast and reliable data transfers.
"The system continues the legacy of proven Coronis benefits such as intervention-free DICOM compliance, luminance uniformity, and ambient light compensation, while introducing a new proprietary innovation called 'SmoothGray',” said Geert Carrein, market director for Barco's medical imaging division. "SmoothGray presents grayscale images with an ultraprecise palette of ‘just noticeable differences' that are perfectly adapted to the sensitivity of the human eye. This makes it easier to detect subtle image details, such as pulmonary nodules or pneumothoraces.”
