A new mammography viewing application is an effective tool for mammography imaging centers because there is no printing or shipping of films, or setting up and maintaining a service for referring physicians to get the images digitally.

Three Palm Software, Inc. (TPS; Los Gatos, CA, USA), a developer of solutions for the breast imaging market, and Codonics, Inc. (Middleburg Heights, OH, USA), a developer of image documentation systems for the medical imaging industry, announced that they would provide a Codonics Branded Viewer for Mammography for its international markets.

The Codonics MammoViewer will be configured by Three Palm Software as an option with Codonics' Virtua Medical Disc Publisher product. The Virtua line of high-performance medical disc recording systems is capable of recording up to 60 CDs or 30 DVDs an hour.

The MammoViewer, a mammography Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) viewer, provides referring physicians and patients the ability to view and/or manipulate a mammography study. The viewer includes specific tools used for viewing mammography such as true size, one to one pixel size image ratios, and all standard mammography viewing hanging protocols.

Now, imaging centers that purchase the Codonics Virtua with the MammoViewer can automatically include it on the disc with the patient study. By the time the patient is finished with the exam, Virtua has recorded the study, burned the viewer, and included a custom, full-color label on the disc, ready for the patient to take with them.

"We're very excited to offer the MammoViewer to our overseas Virtua customers," said Mike Kolberg, VP of sales, Codonics. "There really haven't been good options available for mammography image viewing on portable CD or DVD media. Three Palm's agreement to provide Codonics with a branded product that is extremely easy to use is perfect for our Virtua configurations designed specifically for viewing mammography images. The MammoViewer augments our standard DICOM viewers with one that is specialized for mammography viewing. We are pleased to provide referring physicians all of the sophisticated mammography tools right at the user's fingertips with a very user-friendly approach."

"Codonics has a world-leading product for medical disc creation, and TPS is an expert in mammography viewing software," said Patrick Heffernan, CEO/CTO of Three Palm Software. "We are pleased to collaborate with Codonics to provide this user-friendly, efficient viewer for viewing mammography studies."

Three Palm Software develops software applications for the breast imaging market. TPS's first product, WorkstationOne, was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Demonstration (FDA) in 2007 and is currently installed in a number of mammography centers.

Codonics is an international supplier of dry, diagnostic medical imagers, CD/DVD disc publishers, and medical disc import solutions.
