A new release of software for a desktop diagnostic imaging workstation provides users with faster image loading and customizable viewing protocols for enhanced workflow. Other improvements made to its visualization, print, and CD/DVD features accelerate both access and distribution of images among patients and referring physicians.

Merge Healthcare (Milwaukee, WI, USA), a leading medical imaging solutions provider, announced the release of eFilm Workstation 3.1, which adds Windows Vista support, faster load times, and accelerated workflow communication to the popular diagnostic review software. With tens of thousands of downloads and licensed users worldwide, eFilm Workstation is one of the easiest-to-use Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) viewers available. EFilm Workstation is most typically used as a diagnostic workstation, technologist review station, remote reading terminal, image distribution mechanism, and disaster recovery device.

"The Vista-compatible version of eFilm has improved our workflow tremendously,” said Bruce Korf M.D., PhD., chair of University of Alabama at Birmingham's (UAB; USA) department of genetics and leading authority in the disorder neurofibromatosis. "My work relies heavily on 3D [three-dimensional] reconstructions and making numerous longitudinal, side-by-side comparisons of studies. The quality of information eFilm provides and its adjustable viewing protocols let me compare multiple images with ease. In fact, it's so simple to use, I have a difficult time looking at any other system.”

The release of version 3.1 also includes the first year of technical support provided on a 24 hours a day, seven days a week basis. This new extended support coverage program was implemented to assure the needs of each eFilm Workstation user are met, while providing optimal support access to eFilm's growing international customer base. "Our expanded support coverage is yet another reason why eFilm continues to lead the industry as a cost-effective, standalone diagnostic viewer,” remarked Justin Dearborn, Merge Healthcare CEO. Merge offers a series of value-added services for eFilm users including online community, blog, Authentic eFilm validation program, as well as the newly introduced Application Exchange offering.

Merge Healthcare's systems help solve mission-critical issues for radiology practices, outpatient imaging centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and device manufacturers worldwide.
