A new medical imaging visualization software application supports a wide range of functionalities customized for the needs of image-dependent medical specialists, radiologists, and radiology subspecialists.

FiatLux Imaging, Inc.'s (Redmond, VA, USA) advanced three-dimensional (3D) medical imaging application FiatLux Visualize provides high levels of performance in image processing quality, flexibility, and portability. The application supports anywhere, anytime use on personal computers (PCs), laptops, and tablets.

"Our goal is to make traditionally expensive advanced image visualization within reach of every medical provider who will benefit from it,” FiatLux Imaging CEO Mary Frances Feider.

Introduced following U.S Food and Drug- (FDA)-clearance in August 2008, FiatLux Visualize takes advantage of the sophisticated technology behind current graphic-intensive video games and built-in PC video graphic cards to provide precise, high-resolution image reformations from computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) scans on PCs, laptops, and tablets at a portion of the cost of using expensive and cumbersome proprietary workstations. Medical professionals can enjoy the benefits of advanced visualization with 3D image analysis as well as a variety of conventional 2D viewing features.

FiatLux Visualize installs in minutes and is easy to use. Users simply load a study on the machine, open the application, and view the study according to their preference from a menu of hanging protocols. While other advanced visualization applications may limit users to static 3D images, FiatLux Visualize supports quick and easy CT and MR manipulation and rendering in real time.

Radiologists have commended FiatLux's image processing technology and its implications for enhanced imaging workflow, noting that FiatLux Visualize represents a paradigm shift in advanced medical imaging processing. Radiologists can work easily from home or other remote locations with FiatLux Visualize running on a portable computing device. And with its low price point and ease of deployment, FiatLux Visualize is a cost-effective option for hospital radiology departments and imaging centers that want to evaluate the efficiencies of utilizing 3D rendering and other advanced visualization techniques to manage their large MR and CT datasets.

FiatLux Imaging is developing next-generation medical imaging software system including 3D advanced visualization and analysis for MRI and CT for use by neurosurgeons, orthopedists, and other image-dependent providers, along with radiology departments and imaging facilities.
