Innovative Imaging Platform Combines Optical and Digital Enhancements

A combination of digital and optical enhancements provides a more accurate in vivo endoscopic diagnosis through improved vessel and mucosal pattern characterization.

The Pentax Medical (Tokyo, Japan) OPTIVISTA EPK-i7010 high-definition (HD) video processor combines digital (i-scan Surface and Tone) image enhancement processing technology and i-scan optical enhancement (i-scan OE) to display the surface structures of blood vessels, glandular ducts, mucosal membrane, and vascular patterns. The conjoining of optical and digital features support the early detection, demarcation, and characterization of multiple aspects of tissue structure.

A new optical filter produces bandwidth-limiting light, which allows the clinicians to switch seamlessly amongst HD+ white light and three different i-scan modes. The OPTIVISTA EPK-i7010 HD video processor is designed to work together with the Pentax i10 HD+ endoscopes series and MagniView optical zoom endoscopes. The platform is also capable of performing video recording, thus enabling capture of HD+ video files onto a USB storage device, with supplemental audio recording captured through an external microphone.

An intuitive touch screen control allow for simple and efficient operation, with freeze scan technology that automatically selects the sharpest picture for users’ records. By integrating the video and audio capture functionality, there is no requirement for further recording devices or software. OPTIVISTA also serves as a powerful teaching platform via TwinMode, aiding the interpretation of image-enhanced endoscopy by providing simultaneous comparison of side-by-side images. The simultaneous comparison is particularly useful for demonstrating the appropriate characterization of lesions.

“This is just one of a series of exciting product launches for Pentax Medical this year. We are looking to increase our support to consultants across GI, ENT, and bronchoscopy by adding to our product portfolio over the coming months,” said Rainer Burkard, President EMEA of Pentax Medical. “OPTIVISTA will have a marked effect on the diagnosis possibilities for consultants. Working with our other technologies we are in a strong position to support the entire clinical pathway, from initial identification through to therapy.”
