New Integrated Imaging Portfolio for Cardiology Care Cycle

A global player in the manufacturing of imaging equipment has unveiled a complete integrated imaging portfolio for complex cardiology procedures including a real-time 3D ultrasound system, dual-source cardiac CT scanner, and heart MRI system for analysis of heart muscle health.

The equipment is intended to enable a comprehensive cardiology treatment workflow based on minimally invasive procedures.

Siemens Healthineers (Erlangen, Germany) developed the Acuson SC2000 Prime ultrasound system for real-time 3D heart mitral-valve insufficiency imaging. The Acuson system works together with the Somatom Force dual-source Computed Tomagraphy (CT) scanner, and software that can analyze blood circulation in heart muscle using Magnetic Imaging Resonance (MRI) exams.

The new system is intended especially for minimally invasive diagnostics, therapy and follow-up interventions for sensitive heart patients such as those at an advanced age. These patients can no longer be treated using open-heart surgery because of existing chronic diseases, the risks presented by general anesthesia, and the time required for rehabilitation.

Elderly patients often suffer from structural heart diseases such as functional disorders preventing the mitral valve from closing completely, and resulting in blood leakage back to the left atrium. The new non-invasive workflow helps cardiologists make a diagnosis, assess the risks, and select the best treatment option.

The Acuson SC2000 system together with advanced analysis software, enable imaging using a Trans-Esophageal Echocardiography (TEE) probe to provide real-time, color Doppler, 3D, full-volume scans of the heart and blood flow analysis. Rapid, low-dose Cardiac CT scanning, and the MyoMaps MRI software enable cardiologists to plan treatment for vessel occlusions, visualize tissue fluid accumulation, and blood perfusion in heart muscle.
