A new diagnostic display system introduces the world's first 30-inch color liquid crystal display (LCD) that can be used either as two 3 MegaPixel heads or as one wide-screen 6 MegaPixel display. This makes it possible for radiologists to read chest X-ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), cath and echo cardiogram images, or any other combination, side-by-side on a single diagnostic screen. The Coronis Fusion 6MP DL, the world's first 6 MegaPixel diagnostic display system, developed by Barco (Kortrijk, Belgium), is quickly establishing itself in the radiology reading room. After early contracts in the United States, Australia, Korea, Belgium, Germany, and France, Barco announced that it has also received a significant order for this product under a picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) installation project in the Beatrix Hospital (Gorinchem, The Netherlands). The order fits within a larger PACS installation program carried out by Philips Healthcare (Best, The Netherlands).
Coronis Fusion 6MP DL is the latest extension of Barco's diagnostic display range. The system's wide-screen LCD screen is combined with a high-performance display controller and an online system for automated softcopy Quality Assurance, resulting in a turnkey solution for PACS imaging.
In their search for the preferred softcopy display solution, the Beatrix Hospital set up a steering group that brought together the radiology department, a clinical physicist and an external consultancy company. Radiologist Dr. de Leeuw was impressed the high-grade image quality of the new Coronis Fusion 6MP DL display system, "Thanks to its innovative IPS-Pro LCD technology, it presents medical content with exceptional homogeneity and clarity and with a very broad spectrum of just noticeable grayscale differences. This makes it a very versatile solution for our multi-modality PACS environment, including X-ray, CT, MRI, and other images. Moreover, we very much appreciate the system's very wide viewing angle, which will allow us to gather around one display with fellow radiologists to share opinions and jointly develop treatment paths for our patients.”
Barco's Coronis Fusion 6MP DL display systems will be integrated into a large PACS installation project, implemented by Philips Healthcare. "The new PACS solution will introduce a more streamlined imaging workflow in the Beatrix Hospital, enabling physicians to better focus on patient care. The brand-new Coronis Fusion 6MP DL from Barco is a vital element is this new PACS environment, because it enables radiologists to view all color and grayscale studies on a seamless, high-resolution 30-inch diagnostic viewport,” said Johan van den Berg, project manager at Philips.
"The Coronis Fusion 6MP DL offers the Beatrix Hospital a versatile, future-proof visualization solution apt for a broad spectrum of modalities that deliver diagnostic grayscale as well as color images. In addition, the hospital will benefit from the peace of mind that comes with the product's standard five-year warranty,” concluded Luc Colle, Regional Director EMEA at Barco.
Under the same contract, the Dutch hospital also ordered Barco's dedicated 5 MegaPixel grayscale display systems for digital mammography. Equipped with proven technology, these Coronis 5MP Mammo systems will refine clinical diagnoses and increase productivity in the hospital's mammography department.
Barco is a global technology company, designs, and develops visualization products for a variety of selected professional markets.
