Bowel Endoscopy System Uploads Data to Cloud

A new exam management system allows physicians to extract data from the CapsoCam Plus small bowel capsule endoscope system without the need to process capsules post-ingestion.

The CapsoVision (Saratoga, CA, USA) CapsoCam Plus system consists of the capsule endoscope, a capsule retrieval kit, a data access system, and proprietary software that all work together to provide streamlined, comprehensive 360 degree examination of the small bowel. In contrast to end-facing cameras that only provide a limited view of the mucosa, the CapsoCam Plus uses four laterally oriented cameras to provide a full 360° panoramic image of the mucosa.

CapsoCam Plus uses a large-capacity onboard storage system that eliminates the need for external receiver equipment. The onboard storage design makes capsule administration faster and easier, while eliminating risks associated with radio frequency (RF) signals. To extract the images and other data collected during a CapsoCam Plus examination, users now have two options; the first is to place the retrieved capsule into the CapsoAccess system, download the data, and access it with the CapsoView software, available for both Microsoft Windows and Mac OSX operating systems.

The second option allows patients to go home and return to their normal activities while the exam data is captured. Once the capsule is expelled, the patient places it in a retrieval vial and ships it in a prepaid return envelope to the CapsoCloud Download Center, where data is uploaded to a cloud-based exam management system that allows the physician to log on to a secure, HIPAA-compliant portal to access, download, and review the patient data. Physicians can also use the portal to facilitate data transfer to designated third-party capsule endoscopy reading services.

“Healthcare facilities often spend an excessive amount of time preparing and managing capsule endoscopy equipment,” said Johnny Wang, President of CapsoVision. “With CapsoCam Plus, we've already eliminated many of those pain points. Now, CapsoCloud further reduces the effort needed to obtain valuable examination data.”
